LETTER "T" IN "UNITE"

"This piece incorporates the idea that no matter how different we are as minorities, people who are not of color tend to see us as the time even though we are vastly different. The only bear in the piece that was different was the one in the front by being in full color while the rest being just copies of the original. This was used to show how we as people of color and other minorities have to always present ourselves as a non threat just to coexist, in a multitude of atmospheres. Whether it's walking on the same side of a street, or a long dark hallway, or a simple traffic stop with the police. Our mere presence tends to shine a light on those who are prejudiced. Which as historically been perpetuated by the media and the government. What made me come up with the teddy bear, were many of the ideals of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Freedom Fighters, in their nonviolent approach, to not only be seen as equals but also as individuals who deserve compassion, empathy, and justice."
