Working with Typeface
For all three compositions I chose to use four different typefaces. I chose the letter Q for my open composition for a couple of reasons. I really liked this composition because I felt like the piece was well balanced and looked like the letters were stacking on top of one another. I also like how the letters become bolder as your eye examines the page from one side to the other. For the corner composition, I chose to use the letter K. I originally did not like this letter composition, but kept letting it proceed to the next stage rather than eliminate it because everyone else in the class seemed to like it. After making a few final adjustments, the corner composition has grown on me. Once again, I found a way to create balance within the composition; on one side you have the sharper, straight K’s and on the other there are more curvier K’s. Lastly, I picked the letter B for my strip composition. I enjoyed how bold the letters were and how much space they took up in the composition. Just as all the positive space connects almost perfectly, the negative space within the B’s connects and creates more shapes and I found this to be aesthetically pleasing.
